A Mexican food chain is set to open its third restaurant in the county.

Plan Burrito, a Tex-Mex joint selling nachos, tacos, quesadillas, burritos and more, has confirmed its latest move will see it pitch up in the Medway Towns.

Since launching in 2015 in Loughborough, the brand has expanded to 10 branches across the UK - including two in Kent already.

The chain announced it was heading to Ramsgate in July last year, before revealing it would be making Canterbury its second home just months later.

And the Tex-Mex fever shows no sign of stopping, with Plan Burrito's founder and CEO, Stephen Hopper, revealing its third store in the county will be arriving in Gillingham High Street.

An exact opening date has not yet been confirmed, although the 36-year-old expects the restaurant to begin trading in the spring.

He believes the brand's authentic nature, alongside its eat-in, takeaway, delivery and collection options, will offer more Kent residents the opportunity to enjoy its Mexican cuisine.

Mr Hopper, who lives in Leicestershire, explained: "We are so excited to be opening in Gillingham.

"The community seems really friendly and welcoming, so we are looking forward to giving that back to all the great people of the town.

"We will be offering both dine-in and delivery services, so even for those of you who can’t get to us will still be able to enjoy our food in the comfort of your home.

"Plan Burrito will be your place to go and escape the rush so you can kick back and enjoy our retro music playlist and chilled out vibe.

"We've looked at our other stores and what has worked well, and so opening in Kent is like a cluster-effect."

The former design engineer says the branch will offer a tasty "escape" for food lovers not wishing to buy grub at more common fast food outlets.

"There aren't many places which are tasty and healthy at the same time, so what we're offering is a fresh service and something new to the area," the father-of-three added.

"Plan Burrito also caters for any food allergies and is customisable for how anyone wants their food.

"Buying street food like burgers is sometimes really difficult to eat and fit in your mouth, whereas just being able to buy a slice of pizza on its own in the street isn't that common.

"But with a burrito it's wrapped in foil and you tear down as far as you bite it, so it's easier, cleaner and tastier to eat than something pre-packed elsewhere."

Once open, Plan Burrito will have about 10 employees on its books and will have seating for up to 20 customers.

Opening times are yet to be revealed, although the company's boss says he anticipates they will be similar to the chain's other branches.

In Canterbury, this is from 11.30am to midnight on Monday to Thursday, from 11.30am to 1am on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11.30am to 10pm on Sundays.

Mr Hopper adds applying for a pavement licence for more outdoor seating ahead of the summer is also on the cards.

Plan Burrito won the award for Best Street Food in England at the 2022 National Food Awards.
