Gillingham FC players and manager Justin Edinburgh meet young patients at Medway Maritime Hospital

"Are they really footballers?" asked one wide-eyed youngster as Gills players paid a visit to children who will have to spend Christmas in hospital.
Staff on the ward were happy to assure him that, indeed, they really were footballers, taking a brief break from preparing for today's game against Swindon Town, to spread some festive cheer.
Manager Justin Edinburgh and his team went along to the children's ward at Medway Maritime Hospital to hand out gifts to young patients and chat to their parents.
Hospital play specialist Ann McKinnon said: "These visits are one of the highlights of the year. It is hard for children, and their mums and dads, to be in hospital at Christmas and this really lifted their spirits.
"The children were amazed and excited to meet footballers and it was a big moment for the parents as well, especially those who are Gills supporters."
Also visiting the wards this year have been panto stars and kmfm presenters Garry Wilson and Emma Adam went along to hand out gifts collected as part of the station's toy appeal.
"We're really grateful to everyone who gives up their time to visit," added Mrs McKinnon.
