A knitted doll with no clothes on has been touring Kent and beyond to promote a theatre show, as cast members have bared all too.

Nudey Nora has been pictured at locations around the county ahead of The Kentish Players' performance of Calendar Girls in Chatham.

Meanwhile, those starring in the musical have stripped off to shoot a naked calendar of their own.

More than 20 brave members of the amateur dramatics group posed with carefully positioned items hiding their modesty.

Vice chairman Rosie Bass said: "None of us had ever done anything like this before. It took some convincing – and it took some convincing for people to do the show too.

"The shooting for the calendar took place over two evenings. We all had to get undressed in a cold kitchen. Let's just say the photographer got quite an eyeful."

The calendars have been sold to raise funds for the Galton chemotherapy unit at Medway Maritime Hospital.

Meanwhile, Nudey Nora has been pictured at cafes, theatres and yoga sessions all over Kent. She has even jetted off on holiday – travelling to France and Beindorm.

Nora was knitted by the Kentish Players' long-serving props mistress Norah Dollimore, who has been with the group for 50 years.

Rosie won the doll in a raffle and decided to use her to promote the show.

Her photos have been shared on social media with the hashtag #nudeynoraontour.

Rosie said: "She's been all over the place. I have got some very bizarre looks when I have been taking pictures."

Calendar Girls will be the Kentish Players' first major show in three years because of the Covid pandemic.

With music by Gary Barlow and Tim Firth, the musical has been inspired by the true story of a group of ladies who decide to appear nude for a Women’s Institute calendar in order to raise funds to buy a settee for their local hospital, in memory of one of their husbands.

As well as their own calendar, the Kentish Players will be raising funds for the Galton Day Unit by collecting cash following each performance.

The show is at The Central Theatre, Chatham, from June 30 to July 2.

Rosie said: "We are all looking forward to it, but it scary too and nerve-racking. I have to sit at a piano, naked, with my back to the audience.

"But knowing we are doing it to help raise money for charity makes it all worthwhile."

Tickets cost £17.50, with concessions available at £16.25 for seniors, U16s and students.
