An NHS midwife who has to travel an hour to work each day has had her car stolen from outside her home.

The 22-year-old, who lives near the City Way in Rochester, had her Ford Fiesta stolen from outside her house on Monday evening.

She said: "I had been working the night shifts across the weekend. I went home on Monday morning and parked my car opposite my home, outside my neighbour's house.

"When I went out to the car on Tuesday morning, it was gone.

"There was no smashed glass, no alarm, nothing, it was like nothing had happened.

"I had both of the car keys with me inside the house, just like usual. The thieves must have hot-wired it.

"My neighbour said they saw the car being driven off around 6pm that evening but thought nothing of it."

She qualified as a midwife last October and bought the Fiesta to celebrate.

"I work in Essex, it takes me about an hour to get there.

"Without my car, my mum, who I live with, will have to take me to work every day until I get a courtesy car.

"I don't know what I'm going to do. I just have to keep paying the monthly payments and hope that someone knows something so I can get my car back."

Police spokesman Martin Very said: "Officers are investigating the theft of a red Ford Fiesta from Rochester, at around 6.20pm on Monday, May 4.
