Rochester Castle will be closed until the end of the week so maintenance work can be carried out.
English Heritage announced on their website that the 12th century building was closed 'until further notice.'
A spokesman from Medway Council, who own the site, said some internal decorative work was needed to be repaired and they expect to open it again by the end of the week.
The castle grounds and the shop are open as normal.
