Three prolific shoplifters have been banned from entering specific shops in the county.

The order was granted on July 27 at Medway Magistrates’ Court and Tilley was also given an 18-week sentence for theft.

Daniel Thompson, 52, of Devonshire Road in Gillingham was given an 18-month community order on August 4, and was ordered to pay a fine and £120 compensation for his shoplifting.

He was also handed a three-year CBO which bars him from entering any shop owned or managed by Lidl, Co-Op, Aldi, Sainsbury’s or Poundland in Medway.

Thompson is also banned from entering the Dockside Retail Outlet in Maritime Way, Chatham.

Nina Mercer, 41, of Scholars Rise in Strood was given a 12-week sentence which is suspended for 12 months, and has been ordered to pay £50 compensation.

She has been given a three-year CBO prohibiting her from entering any Asda, Wilko, Tesco or B&M within Kent.

Inspector Sasha Blomfield, of Medway’s Community Safety Team, said: “The orders were obtained to ensure those who act in such a manner face repercussions for their behaviour.

“Shoplifting is not a victimless crime and will not be tolerated. We worked with our partners, including the Safer Medway Partnership, to ensure these CBOs were authorised and I hope it sends a clear message to others who may be intent on committing similar crime.”
