An old fire station will be transformed into a new all-day eatery.

The premises under the bridge of the A2 New Road, New Cut, Chatham, will be taken over via lease the owners of popular wedding venue Cooling Castle Barn.

The new leaseholders promise a great atmosphere with food, cocktails, live music and even coffee for morning commuters from 7am.

The site was earmarked for refurbishment back in November 2018.

Medway Council allocated £190,000 to buy and refurbish the former fire station as part of a wider regeneration of Chatham.

Rebecca Collins, from Cooling Castle Barn, will be taking over the lease.

She said: "Our team are excited to be bringing a new all day eatery to Chatham.

"The fire station café will deliver a warm and welcoming environment, with inviting food options and fantastic coffee from 7am for our commuters, local residents and incoming visitors.

"Engaging with the vibrant evening economy we look forward to delivering a thoughtful and eclectic ambiance with ambitious cocktails, craft beers, mouth-watering food and live music.

"Medway is a vibrant, brilliant place to live and work, and we know that this communal space will add to the colourful tapestry of local businesses in the area."

Cllr Adrian Gulvin (Con), Medway Council’s Portfolio Holder for Resources, said: "We are extremely pleased that we will soon welcome a new all-day restaurant in the old fire arches - it’s a fantastic location in the heart of Chatham.

"We have invested heavily in Chatham town centre and carried out a number of improvement works to make it a more attractive and enjoyable place for people to live and visit. It is great news that new businesses are already being attracted to the area.

"Chatham is steeped in history and during the improvement works to this site our contractors found a cannon, thought to date back to the 18th Century, in the arches which is now being restored at Fort Amherst.

"The new café will enhance what the town centre already has on offer and it is due to be open from early in the morning, over lunchtime and into the evening. We wish Rebecca and the team all the best for the future."
