Gillingham High Street turns all festive at Christmas lights switch on

Hundreds of people got into in the full festive swing when they went to watch the Gillingham Christmas lights being switched on.

There were other activates before hand as shoppers stopped to watch the entertainment, which started at 3.45pm.

The Christmas Community Choir sung carols and entertained people while Ruby May, 11 sung her song at the event.

The light switch on was carried out by Mayor and Mayoress of Medway, Cllr Josie Iles and Cllr Steve Iles, Ruby May and Catboy from Disney's PJ Masks show.

Later today in Chatham High Street the Christmas lights will also be turned on.

There is entertainment throughout the day before the big event at 5pm.

There will be street magicians, a snow lion, break-dancing Santas, a robot and gliding angels as well as appearances again from the cast of Dick Whittington and his Cat.

Celebrations continued in Rochester too as the Christmas market returned to the Castle Gardens with a Bavarian food village, fun fair, gift stalls and performers.

Santa also arrived at Dobbies in Courtney Road, Gillingham, today and money raised from it is being donated to the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Next Friday, November 30, will see Rainham sparkle when Chase from Paw Patrol will join in the fun from 3.45pm before the lights go on at 5pm.

From next Friday, Sammy the Sheep, a show for under 6s, will also be on at The Brook theatre, Chatham.
