Store workers in Kent face an uncertain future, after toys giant Toys R Us crashed into administration.

More than 3,000 jobs are at risk in the UK, as retailers struggle with tough trading conditions.

Workers in stores in Chatham and Tunbridge Wells are affected by the move.

In December, the US-owned firm announced a major rescue plan, which included the closure of 26 stores, including the one in Tunbridge Wells, in the spring.

Moorfields has been appointed administrator to Toys R Us UK, the country's largest toy retailer, which is continuing to trade from its 100-plus stores.

It has promised to accept gift cards already bought, and announced remaining stock would be on offer to help clear stock.

All stores are due to remain open until further notice.

Toys R Us is said to be struggling internationally, and sought bankruptcy protection in the US and Canada last year.

The chain has previously admitted its 1980s-style warehouse stores had become tired, expensive and suffered particularly from online competition.

Maplin workers in Kent suffered a similar blow today as the electrical retailer - with several stores in the county - also entered administration.
