All traffic was temporarily held on the M2 because of an overturned car.
The accident happened on the coastbound carriageway between J2 for the A228 Sundridge Hill at Strood and J3 for Chatham and Maidstone.
Traffic reports say vehicles were stopped at 12.45pm just after the Medway bridge.
The closure is said to have been affecting all local traffic around the Medway towns.
A police spokesman said: "Kent Police was called to the coastbound carriageway of the M2 between Junctions 2 and 3 at 12.33pm following a report of an overturned car.
"The drivers injuries are not deemed to be serious and the road is now clear."
