Train services faced disruption after concerns of a gas leak near the track near a railway station.
The coastbound line towards Faversham was due to be closed for about half-an-hour while the gas supplier carried out checks on the line this afternoon at Rochester.
Southeastern said: "We have been advised by Network Rail because of a gas leak near the railway near Rochester.
"Trains may be delayed, altered or cancellation."
The train operator has since said safety tests have now been completed and the line has reopened but residual delays are expected in the area while trains get back to normal.
