Firefighters have issued a warning after a house fire caused by a tumble dryer.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service was called to reports of a tumble dryer alight at a house in Harold Avenue, Gillingham just after 11am this morning.
Two fire engines attended and crews wore breathing apparatus while using hose reel jets and high pressured fans to extinguish the flames.
No casualties were reported.
It’s believed the fire started accidentally when the tumble dryer overheated.
The resident had closed the internal doors to the conservatory, where the appliance was kept, which helped to limit the spread of smoke throughout the rest of the home.
Following the incident, firefighters are reminding members of the public to check their electrical items are in good working order before use, follow manufacturers’ instructions and not leave appliances running overnight, or while you’re out of the house.
They are also reminding residents to clean tumble dryer filters regularly, as a build-up of fluff can catch fire it not removed.
