A bomb disposal team have blown up a suspected wartime munition in a field in Strood this morning.
Police have been at the scene near Brompton Farm Road for much of the morning awaiting the arrival of the Ministry of Defence specialists.
Resident Dawn Willard,55, said she and husband Tony, 66, heard a loud bang about half-an-hour ago
Mrs Willard said: "A policeman has been in the field from about 9.30am this morning. He appeared to be looking for something.
"
At fist we thought it was because there have been a spate of thefts from shed. But then we saw the bomb disposal people arrive and then the explosion."
A police spokesman said the MoD's Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called to the scene
