A “very distressed” dog had to be rescued after getting stranded on marshland.
Clara the cocker spaniel had made her way onto Copperhouse Marsh near Rainham at around 12.20pm yesterday (October 6) before getting cut off by the incoming tide.
The small dog was too tired and stressed to get back to the shore herself and became stranded.
The Sheerness RNLI inshore lifeboat was called and a volunteer crew-of-three, who were out on exercise at the time, headed to Medway.
Crews were guided to Clara’s location by the Medway Coastguard Rescue Team and Clara’s owner and two crew members from the lifeboat managed to coax her to them.
She was then picked up and carried back to the lifeboat before being reunited with her owner.
The lifeboat was stood down and was back on station at 1.50pm.
This call followed two more incidents for the crew when they were tasked the previous evening at 9.16pm to an incident at Rochester.
Whilst on their way back to station the crew were tasked by the UK Coastguard to a yacht, with one man onboard, that had previously run aground close to Hoo in the River Medway.
It was reported the vessel was now afloat but the man needed some help as he was extremely cold and had no food or drinks with him.
Having quickly located the casualty craft the crew took the man onboard the lifeboat and landed him at the pontoon pier in Chatham where someone was waiting to collect him.
The lifeboat was released at midnight and was back on station and ready for further service at 1.15am.
