Thomas Aveling School, Rochester, warns parents after man contacts girls on Facebook

A school has issued a warning after reports a man has been targeting pupils on Facebook.

The Thomas Aveling School in Arethusa Road, Rochester, is warning parents as a man has been adding teenage girls on the social media site.

The school has said they have followed advice from police and contacted the parents of a small number of pupils.

In an email to one mum, which has been shared online, the school said: “Ensure your daughter is asked if they have any concerns about a Facebook friend who has a display profile picture of a male chest.

“If they have had contact please contact the police immediately and update them on the relevant details for their ongoing investigation.

“All students to delete and block this person as soon as possible.”

It added: “Please advise your child not to add any person they do not know on social media.”

Head teacher, Paul Jackson, said: “Police contacted us and made us aware that a small number of our students had been in contact with someone about whom the police had concerns.

“We followed the advice given by the police, which was to contact the parents of these students so that they could ensure that his details were deleted and blocked from their child’s social media accounts.”

Police have been contacted for comment.
