11:00, 05 August 2015

A teenager on a night out with friends was brutally beaten in an “unprovoked attack” in a fast food restaurant.

Ryan Sadler, from Northfleet, had been to Casinos in Rochester High Street on Saturday evening and into the early hours of Sunday morning.

He went to McDonald's in Commercial Road, Strood, at about 3am with a friend, but left in an ambulance with a cracked head, a broken nose, a fractured eye socket and numerous cuts and bruises.

The 19-year-old said: “We were sat eating our food and talking to another group of people next to us. They left and we got up to go too. There was another group of about four lads sat by the door, and as we were leaving Kieran shouted 'oi, oi' to a girl he thought he knew.

“The next thing I know one of the lads at the table stands up and said ‘I’ll give you oi oi’. He grabbed Kieran by the neck and threw him across the floor.

“I just said ‘woah, we’re leaving’, and then he grabbed me by the scruff of my jumper and pushed me. I fell into something and cracked my head. He punched me a few times but I blacked out. Then I woke up in the manager’s office.”

The teen was taken to East Grinstead hospital for specialist care and added: “It all happened so quickly, I didn’t have a chance to defend myself, and I don’t know how long the attack lasted while I was unconscious.

“It’s really shaken me up. I didn’t get any sleep on Sunday, I’ve got loads of questions in my head, like why would somebody want to do this? What do they get out of it? It was unprovoked.”

Ryan, who has never been involved in a fight before, said he wants his attacker caught.

“I want to help prevent this happened to somebody else. Who knows this guy may start on somebody else this weekend, and they could be seriously injured. I was lucky, really, it could have been much worse. Kieran was ok luckily, it had been a good night until then.”

With his face swollen and bruised, Ryan starts a new job tomorrow as a stationery supplies salesman.

“Not the best first impression,” he said, “but it will be a story to tell anyway.”

A police spokeman said the force is investigating the alleged assault and released a description of the suspect.

He is said to be a white male, aged between 30 and 35-years-old, of medium build and around 5ft 9ins tall. He had brown hair in a Mohican style and a beard. He wore a black T-shirt, blue jeans and dark brown shoes.

Police have seized CCTV and inquiries are on-going.

Ryan has thanked to a number of people who helped him on the night.

He said: “A man who was also eating in McDonald’s happened to be a bouncer and apparently he pulled me out from under this guy and to safety. I don’t know his name but I’m really grateful to him.

“I got told a girl stepped in to try and stop it too but I don’t know what happened to her.

“The manager was brilliant, she was helping to stop the bleeding in the office and called the ambulance and police.”
