Karen Saffery, of Rainham, wins a selection of electronic prizes after taking part in Kent Online relaunch competition

11:00, 05 June 2014

A Rainham woman thought it was a wind-up when kmfm presenters called her to tell her she had won a range of electronic prizes.

To mark the relaunch of KentOnline in March we gave away a smart TV, tablet, mobile phone and laptop from Samsung plus a Playstation 4 and a game - all devices which can now be used to access the UK’s fastest growing regional news website.

There were around 8,000 entrants and the lucky winner was Karen Saffery, of Peverel Green, who found out the good news from kmfm presenters Garry Wilson and Emma Adam on Wednesday.

The 49-year-old said she wishes she had been a bit more bubbly when they made the announcement.

She said: “I honestly thought it was my friend pranking me.

“It was only after I realised it wasn’t a prank. It was just so shocking. It was absolutely unbelievable.

“There were so many prizes - it was a lot to take in, believe me.

“It was an amazing prize to win. I just wish I could take that phone call back now. They must think I’m a miserable moo because I just wasn’t convinced it was true.

The secretary said she will share the prizes among her husband and their children. She said her three sons are “chomping at the bit” to stake a claim to the Playstation 4.

Mrs Saffery said she is quite a lucky person and occasionally wins bits and bobs from competitions she applies for.

She only recently won tickets to a tennis match at Wimbledon this summer.

She said she regularly tunes into kmfm and tells others to have a look for themselves at what they can win.
