A woman has died following a crash with an ambulance.
The woman, aged in her 70s, was a passenger in a car that was involved in a collision with the emergency vehicle.
She was rushed to a London hospital following the accident in Chatham on Tuesday, November 23 but later died of her injuries, police announced today.
The incident happened at 11.49am in The Brook, at the exit road from The Brook multi-storey car park.
Kent Police’s serious collision investigation department is investigating the circumstances and would like to hear from anyone who has information and is yet to speak with an officer.
"Investigators are particularly keen to obtain privately held CCTV and dash cam footage which captures any of the parties involved," a spokesman said.
Officers cordoned off The Brook, where three ambulances and two incident response units remained at the scene, next to Halfords, on the day of the accident.
A car was also damaged and there was debris strewn over the road, which remained closed between Queen Street and King Street.
A South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) spokesman said: “SECAmb can confirm that one of its ambulances was involved in a road traffic collision with a car in The Brook, Chatham shortly after 11.45am. The vehicle was en route to a nearby incident at the time of the collision.
“Ambulance crews attended the scene and the two occupants of the car were assessed and treated before being taken to hospital.
"A woman has been taken to King's College Hospital and a man, in a less serious condition, has been taken to Medway Maritime Hospital.
"The ambulance crew were shaken but uninjured.”
