Goals in each half from Karl Akehurst and Gavin Gordon gave Worthing a deserved victory over Chatham in Ryman League Division 1 South.

Akehurst struck with a speculative right-foot effort after 30 minutes and then Gordon headed home a second early in the second half.

The Chats created few chances, with their best efforts a header from Ben Payne, pictured, going just over and a 20-yard strike from Justin Ascheri which tested Worthing keeper Alan Mansfield.

This Saturday, Chatham are at home to Walton Casuals in the FA Cup first qualifying round.
