A young girl who was meant to see Ariana Grande in concert has donated her ticket money to the families who lost loved ones in the Manchester attack.

Ava Rice from Lordswood was given the tickets for Ariana's show at the O2 in London for her eighth birthday in April.

But following the bombing at the end of her concert at the Manchester Arena, which killed 22 people, Ariana suspended her tour.

Ava’s tickets were refunded but rather than spending the money, around £150, on something else, she chose to donate the money to the families in Manchester.

Her mother, Amy Wilson, said: “Ava has been very upset and crying, saying she feels terrible for the parents who have lost their children. Ava came up with an idea on the way to school to donate her refund money to the parents who have lost their children.

“Ava was very upset at the thought of Ariana being blamed. I explained that she has not been blamed and that she is obviously very distressed about it and that she doesn’t feel up to performing after that awful attack.

She added: “I can’t stop thinking about it. I think we should all try to raise as much money as we can from all our refunds.”

Ava, who goes to St Benedicts Primary School in Lambourn Way, has been a fan since Ariana appeared in children’s TV shows, such as Sam & Cat.

She donated her money to the crowdfunding page set up by the Manchester Evening News.

This Sunday, the popstar is returning to the city to play the One Love Manchester benefit gig which is expected to raise £2m for the victims and families.

She will be joined at Emirates Old Trafford cricket ground by Justin Bieber, Coldplay, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Usher, Take That, Niall Horan, and others.
