Gillingham boss Ady Pennock tells fans to hold their nerve

Head coach Ady Pennock isn’t giving up and hopes the Gillingham fans won’t either.
Gills have yet to win in League 1 this season and were booed off on Saturday after losing 2-1 to Shrewsbury.
It’s four wins in 26 games for Gills boss Pennock since taking charge in January, but he insists things will get better. It’s a challenge he isn’t going to walk away from.
He said: “Don’t give up on the team, don’t give up on the club or myself, because we are going in the right direction.
“Supporters pay good money and they can do and say whatever they want. If they want to boo their team then they can do that.
“I care, I am not lying. I care about the club and everyone here. It is not through the lack of trying.
“I will never throw in the towel. It’s not in me to do that. I’ll keep working very hard.
“We have Gaby Zakuani coming back from international duty next week, Conor Wilkinson is back from suspension and they are key players for us.
“I know what everyone is saying, don’t get me wrong. We need to win games and as a head coach I am very disappointed that we are not winning games.”
The Gills are losing support, as seen with the fall in attendance figures, but Pennock knows more than anyone that the wins need to come soon.
He said: “They have to come, but we have to wait and see, we hope it is next week (against Oxford).
“I am not making excuses. I thought we were okay again (on Saturday), every game we have played this season we have done okay. I do believe it is not too far away."
