Gillingham are awaiting news as to the seriousness of an injury to captain Gabriel Zakuani.
He left the ground on crutches with his left foot in a plastic brace.
Zakuani, 32, picked up his injury following a nasty collision with Barnsley goalscorer Kieffer Moore.
The Tykes striker, who scored his 18th of the season on Saturday after netting inside the first minute, was knocked unconscious following the clash.
Zakuani was sent for an X-ray but looks a doubt for next weekend’s game against Scunthorpe.
The Gills are already a defender down due to an injury to Alex Lacey.
“Gabs is going to have an X-ray on his ankle,” said Lovell, after Saturday’s 4-1 loss.
“We’re not sure what it is, at the moment, but it doesn’t look good. We will see.”
Moore spent the night in hospital after going off on a stretcher, with his neck in a brace, but his club confirmed he was discharged the following morning. The game was delayed for eight minutes while he received treatment on the field.
“It looked like a nasty one,” said Lovell. “All we can do is hope that the pair of them are not as bad as it looked.”
