Aaron Morris will take a step closer to returning to the Gills first team on Tuesday.
The midfielder is set to start for Gillingham in their development team game against Bournemouth.
Morris, who can play in a number of positions, has been missing since January with a hamstring strain.
The 25-year-old had been sidelined for two months prior to that and has played only twice since mid-October.
Morris has played at right back and in midfield for the Gills this season and has featured in 14 games.
The former Cardiff trainee was last in action on January 3, in a 2-1 defeat at Port Vale, under the management of the caretaker team.
If he gets through the match unscathed, then he will come into consideration for Gills this weekend, when they take on Barnsley at Priestfield.
