Cody McDonald was back on song for Gillingham at the weekend.
The striker was recalled for the suspended Rory Donnelly at Shrewsbury and grabbed the opportunity.
He scored a stylish first goal for the Gills, in the 2-2 draw, and only the woodwork denied him a second.
It was a performance that delighted boss Justin Edinburgh.
The Gills manager said: “I was pleased and thought that was as good as Cody has played all season.
“Hopefully it will be a kick start for him.”
McDonald has been plagued by injury for much of the season, robbing him of his sharpness.
Edinburgh said: “It is the best he has felt with the injury he has been playing with. I think that was reflected in his movement and performance, and with his finish.
“He was just a whisker of paint away from winning us the game. I thought him and Dominic Samuel really linked up well and it looked like a partnership that could flourish.”
