Gills boss Peter Taylor is willing to let defender Adam Barrett extend his stay with AFC Wimbledon.
The former Gills skipper has been with the Dons since the start of the season.
Barrett has played 27 games for the League 2 side and has helped them to round three of the FA Cup – where they will meet Premier League Liverpool.
But Barrett will only be able to play in that cup game if he extends the current loan deal, which expires the day before Liverpool are due to visit for the televised cup match.
“I have spoken to the Wimbledon manager and they are just making a decision,” confirmed Taylor.
“They haven’t said yes or no on that one. The cup match is on the Monday and so (the current deal) will have run out by then which is a shame for Adam.”
Barrett, who was a key man for the Gills when they won the League 2 title under Martin Allen, moved to the Dons in the summer as Taylor was unable to guarantee him first team football.
Speaking recently to the Southend Echo, Barrett said: “Of course I would love to play in the game because it’s a fantastic draw and I’m really excited by it.
“It’s going to be a great occasion and is a great early Christmas present, if I can play of course.”
The Dons team includes several ex-Gills players, such as Adebayo Akinfenwa, Barry Fuller and Andy Frampton, all of whom will be hoping to pull off an FA Cup shock on January 5.
“They certainly won’t be looking forward to coming to play us and if we can play to our full potential hopefully we can cause an upset,” added the 35-year-old.
