Strood boxer Louis Greene to face Lewis Crocker for the vacant WBO European welterweight title

Welterweight boxer Louis Greene has a new opponent as he looks to claim a place among the world’s elite.
The Strood boxer will meet undefeated Lewis Crocker (11-0) for the vacant WBO European welterweight title on August 25 in a behind closed door clash that has the potential to be a cracker.
It’s been a patient and at times frustrating wait for Greene (12-1) who was supposed to have fought Michael McKinson for the title back in April, before the Covid-19 crisis led to a postponement.
McKinson pulled out of the rescheduled July meeting and was subsequently stripped of the belt, which he had won a year ago.
Greene will now meet Belfast’s 23-year-old fighter Crocker. Winning the fight would give the Medway boxer a world rating and put his name amongst the best in the business.
A big test awaits and he’s been busy working out at the Kent Gloves gym in Gillingham, sparring the likes of Grant Dennis, the Chatham boxer who hopes to be back in action himself soon with a possible fight in Russia.
The Green-Crocker fight will top the bill in the MTK Global show which is set to be broadcast online and through ESPN.
John Greene, father and coach, said: “We had a bit of drama with McKinson and have been messed about no end. He claims to be the most avoided fighter but he pulled out and was stripped of his title.
“Lewis is similar to Louis and it could be bombs away. He’s a strong come-forward fighter and it should be a really good fight. Hopefully Louis can come out on top.”
