Josh Hare had to a birthday to remember on Tuesday night.
The first year pro turned 20 on the day he was handed his senior debut.
Hare played right wingback for the Gills and helped his side to a win over Yeovil Town in the Capital One first round.
He played the full match and Gills boss Peter Taylor was satisfied with the youngster’s first showing.
“It was his debut and his birthday and so he had a good one, which was nice,” said Taylor.
“I thought he had a very good first half, not so good second half, but his first half display was first class.”
Hare’s appearance comes in the wake of an injury to Matt Fish, which has seen him miss the opening two games of the season.
Fish could, however, be back soon. He is due to return to training on Thursday.
