Striker Cody McDonald will miss the festive campaign and beyond after scans revealed a broken bone in his foot.

McDonald was injured in the 3-0 win over Millwall, sustaining a fracture to a metatarsal bone, after being fouled by keeper Jordan Archer for the first-half penalty.

Early indications are that he will be out for six to eight weeks but he was due to visit a specialist on Tuesday for a more thorough examination.

His season has struggled to take off after starting the campaign injured.

Fellow front-man Luke Norris has just returned from his own injury, meaning boss Justin Edinburgh has options in the short-term to replace the striker.

"It’s a real blow for Cody and the club," said Gills boss Justin Edinburgh.

Gillingham can't bring any replacements in until January and then Edinburgh may look to reinstate Ben Williamson back into the fold.

Williamson is currently enjoying a loan spell with Cambridge, where he has scored three goals so far.
