Gillingham manager Mark Bonner has explained what he likes about the men he’s chosen to captain his side.
Max Ehmer will captain Bonner's Gillingham team for the 2024/25 season in League 2 while new signing Armani Little will be his deputy.
Ehmer wore the armband in pre-season and took on the role for much of last season after club captain Shaun Williams was left out once Neil Harris departed as manager.
With over 400 games for the Gills, Ehmer has been a regular at the back in the side for the best part of a decade.
“Max has unbelievable experience,” said new boss Mark Bonner.
“He knows the place inside out, knows how to get himself ready for 46 games.
“(He has a) good understanding and knowledge of the level, represents the boys with the club very well and can speak publicly with no problem.
“He is a really good foil for me to speak to.
“I am impressed with how he has come back physically and he has worked really well pre-season.”
Little was a summer recruit, leaving Wimbledon for the Gills.
He made his league debut for Gillingham on Saturday in their 4-1 win over Carlisle United.
Bonner described what he liked about the 27-year-old.
He said: “Infectious, fighter, personality, worker, everything we want in our players, so a great example to everybody.
“He plays with the personality that we want. Let’s hope he continues to do well.
“There are plenty of other lads who can step up and lead but they will be the main two for the armband duties.”
