Reading loan striker Dominic Samuel could play his last game for Gillingham on Saturday

Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh hopes this weekend’s game against Bradford City won’t be Dominic Samuel’s last.

The Reading loan striker has scored four goals in eight appearances for the Gills, including the winner last time out against Colchester.

Edinburgh is confident that Championship side Reading will allow their man to extend his stay with the Gills but knows the player will have caught their eye.

He said: “We want to keep him here and that is something I have spoken about. The answer I hope will be a positive one for us.

“But the difficulty is that when your loan is doing so well, the inevitable could happen.

“Whether it does I don’t know and that’s not the impression I have been given. Reading have been good to us and hopefully we can extend it.”

Edinburgh is also hoping to extend the stay of Cardiff loan defender Deji Oshilaja. His deal expires after the game on Saturday.

Edinburgh said: “Deji is in form as well. He has been the mainstay of what we have done here and another one who is important to us.

“Dominic has settled well and Deji is like one of our own. Hopefully, there will be good news.”
