Justin Edinburgh described his team’s performance at Bradford on Tuesday as the best so far this season.

The Gills dominated the match at Bradford but had to come from a goal behind to take all three points.

“It was very much deserved and was probably our best performance to date,” said the Gills boss.

“To fall behind was disappointing but the character we showed to claw ourselves back into the game and go and win was testament to this young group of players.”

The Gills went behind as early as the seventh minute.

“It was the only downfall,” Edinburgh said.

“We had two lapses of concentration, in quick succession. If you don’t nullify the first threat when we had chance from the throw to do so, inevitably you get punished and we did.

“But I thought we moved the ball well, looked very fluent in our passing and stretched Bradford all night.”

The Gills had plenty of chances in the opening half, even before Bradford’s early opener, but trailed 1-0 at the break.

Edinburgh knew his side wouldn’t give in though.

“You always believe,” he said. “We spoke at half time about it. Apart from those two lapses we had been good in the game.

“If we could just be a bit brighter around the box with a little more quality then we could open them up. The goal we got was a good goal to get us back in the game.”

Luke Norris levelled and Edinburgh revealed afterwards that he had turned his ankle in the warm-up. An own-goal won it for the Gills, although Stuart Nelson needed to make a point-blank save in stoppage-time to keep the lead intact.

“It was a good save, he is a good goalkeeper and that is what goalkeepers do,” the manager said.

“I think the whole stadium paused for a few seconds but we earned that right to make that save and win the game.”
