Cliffe Woods boxer Brandon Ball hasn’t taken long to start turning heads.

His win over the experienced Jamie Speight earlier this month, in just his second pro outing, was a surprise to many.

The 20-year-old put on a classy display at York Hall to win the bout on points.

He said: “It was a big jump for me and I shocked a lot of people with that win.

“People might have doubted me but my coach said that I had trained hard. I believe in myself and he believed in me. I back myself and he knew what I could do.

“I went in there and made him look average, I got the job done.”

It made it two wins from two since turning over, having beaten Jules Phillips on his pro debut at the same venue in November.

Ball turned his back on the amateur scene early on, after 15 bouts, growing disillusioned with what he felt was favouritism towards home fighters and popular gyms.

He moved into the unlicensed scene and won all eight of his fights, including six stoppages, before deciding to go pro.

An injury while sparring held him back for a while but it’s now all systems go. His next outing could be on the undercard of David Haye’s next fight in June.

He’s putting everything into his career, training full-time under coach Barry Smith at the West Ham Boxing Club and on the books of Goodwin Promotions.

“You get out of it what you put in,” said the super featherweight.
