Kent’s Shaunagh Brown featured off the bench on Saturday as England beat Canada to reach the Women’s World Cup final.

Brown, from Gillingham, guided the Red Roses to a 26-19 success at Eden Park, New Zealand, while West Malling’s Rosie Galligan - a lock - was also part of the squad.

On Twitter, 32-year-old prop Brown wrote: “Anyone else played in a World Cup semi-final before?

“I have and it's pretty cool.”

The Red Roses were presented their sternest challenge this year as amateur side Canada defied expectations.

But professionals England stood up to the test, with Abby Dow scoring two tries, Marlie Packer also crossing the line, and three penalties from Emily Scarratt were enough to seal the win.

England this Saturday will now play hosts and holders New Zealand in the World Cup final, kick-off at 6.30am.
