Gillingham striker Tom Eaves staying focused on winning matches

Matchwinner Tom Eaves insisted the management speculation didn’t distract anyone at the weekend.
On the eve of the game there were rumours that current boss Ady Pennock would be replaced after the Charlton match.
If those rumours were true, then Eaves’ winner might just have bought the boss a little more time.
“We don’t take notice of that,” said Eaves.
“We just control what we can control and we did that very well on Saturday.
“I don’t think we should take notice of any of that stuff and (on Saturday) we proved it.
“It is important we focus on the task at hand and we did that. I am over the moon, with three points and a goal for myself.”
Eaves had gone four games without a goal, since netting a hat-trick at Priestfield against Shrewsbury.

Those last goals only earned the Gills a point and he was thrilled to be taking all three away this time.
He said: “That was more important (than the hat-trick) because we needed the three points. Everyone felt that and it means a lot to us.
“It showed out there with the work ethic that we put in, we couldn’t have put more into it. The whole team are delighted with it.

“It is very uplifting, especially in the changing room, we can get some momentum now.
“We have a tough game next week at Rochdale and we’ll be looking to get a result there. We feel on top of the world after that win.
“We are a resilient team, there are good characters in the dressing room and good players as well, a lot of talent. We need to hone in on that.
"We have had glimpses, I could have had two or three goals (on Saturday), but we won and got three points – job done.”
