Calling all female rugby players
14:20, 04 April 2007
MEDWAY Ladies Rugby Club are looking for fresh talent for next season.
The club won the South East 2 League several years ago but injury problems and retirements have seen them drop to South East 4.
They have difficulties getting a full team out, regularly playing several players short and sometimes forfeiting league matches.
This season they have won all five of the games they have played, but walkover defeats and postponements have meant a mid-table finish.
Fixtures secretary and player Lesley Thompson-Byatt said: "Ladies’ rugby is growing in popularity but, like many ladies’ sports, it doesn’t get the recognition it deserves.
"Often people watch the game for the first time, see a crunching tackle and imagine it must really hurt. But when you learn to read the game, you realise the physical side of things can be fun. There is also a great social side to the club."
Anyone keen to get involved should call Lesley Thompson-Byatt on 07725 489996.
