Opening of Kent Gloves boxing gym is ambition fulfilled for ex-fighter Charlie Rumbol

Former boxer Charlie Rumbol has described the launch of his own gym as a dream come true.
Kent Gloves, located on the Elm Court Estate in Gillingham, was officially opened to the public on Saturday.
Rumbol has quit his job and spent his life savings to get to this point but he believes the investment will be worth it long-term.
He said: “It’s a dream come true. I’ve always wanted my own gym.
“I used to box for St Mary’s and my dad had a gym called Rumbles. Now I’m doing my own thing.
“It came to £80,000. Me and my partner put all our life savings into it.
“It is a gamble. I was on the water board and my work have said if it doesn’t work out, I can always go back but I’ve got to give it a year-and-a-half to see if it works.
“I believe it will. Everyone’s talking about it so I think we will take off."
There’s training available for professionals, amateurs, novices, children, men and women – in fact, everyone’s welcome.
Rumbol has kitted the gym out with running machines, bikes, skiing machines, weights, aqua bags, a multi-pad boxmaster and two rings plus ropes, gloves and headguards.
He said: “It’s got to be one of the best gyms about. Everyone who comes in loves it.
“Any kid who comes in, even men, their eyes open and can’t believe what a great gym
it is. When you train kids up and they box and win, it’s the best feeling ever."
Kent Gloves is open from 5.30am-8pm on weekdays, 9am-5.30pm on Saturday and 9am-4pm on Sunday.
