Chatham Town came from behind to earn a point on Monday night against Hasthtag United.

Just two days after Chats’ weekend win at Concord Rangers they were on the road again in the Isthmian Premier.

Simon Cooper’s 77th-minute goal cancelled out an early second-half strike from the hosts in a game that finished 1-1.

Chatham boss Kevin Hake was delighted with his team’s response after a 2-0 defeat at Margate last Tuesday.

He said: “Two good back-to-back performances has seen us put a further four points on the board.

“It’s not easy to win in this division especially away from home so I’m pleased we bounced back well after the defeat last week.

“The boys have shown great character and their form is good.

“With the turnaround so quick this week from Saturday to Monday we rotated the squad to keep things fresh and the lads who came in did well.

“We are at that silly stage of the season now when it seemingly means you are playing three times a week, so it’s important to introduce new faces in the starting XI.”

Cooper’s midweek equaliser came courtesy of Kristian Campbell’s determination and skill, crossing for his team-mate to head home after beating a couple of defenders.

Chats are second in the table, eight points behind leaders Hornchurch who beat Folkestone on Tuesday night.

A 3-1 win against Concord last Saturday came thanks to Tommy Fagg’s first-half header, a Jamie Yila penalty on the hour and a last-minute goal from Ben Allen.

The match had seen former Charlton youth forward Kareem Isiaka make his first start for Chatham after joining from Welling.

Hake’s side turn their attention to the FA Trophy this Saturday with a home game against Cray Valley in the First Round.

The manager said: “We face a strong Cray Valley team who I’m delighted to see made it to the first round of the FA Cup (to face Charlton Athletic).

“Games are always close between ourselves and fans will have fond memories of when we last played them as we managed to clinch the title at home that day.

“I’m sure there will be a bumper crowd which will make the occasion even better.”

Chatham travel to Three Bridges in the Third Round of the Velocity Cup on Tuesday night.
