Chatham Town chairman Kevin Hake has issued a rallying call to all supporters as their women’s team look to get their season going.
Interim head coach Jesus Cordon departed in the week after a torrid start. Club chairman and men’s team boss Hake has opted to take the reins on Sunday ahead of interviews for a new permanent manager.
Hake has appealed to all Chatham fans to get behind their women’s team this Sunday when they host Plymouth Argyle.
Chatham Town, who play in the third tier of English women’s football, are winless in their opening five games, with just one point on the board.
Avoiding relegation will be crucial and Hake hopes a big home support this weekend can start to turn their season around.
A statement from the club described the women as being in a “dogfight” and added: “The chairman believes that a united front between the players and fans could be the driving force that propels the team to victory.
“We need every single Chats supporter, from the lifelong diehards to those who've only recently embraced our colours, to stand by us.
“When the team hears the roaring support from the terraces, it gives them that extra push, that added belief.
“Historically, at Chatham Town, the team and its fans has produced magical moments.
“On many an occasion, the backing from the stands has lifted the team, turning potential defeats into thrilling victories. This Sunday promises to be no different.
“The Bauvill is a special place and holds many special memories. We need to ensure we make some more good ones on Sunday.”
The chairman added: ”I understand that times are challenging and that our current position is not where we, or our fans, would like to be.
“But now, more than ever, we need to band together.
“Our players will be giving it their all on the pitch, and to have the backing of the fans can be the difference we need to kick start our season.”
Visitors Plymouth sit two places above Chatham with one win and four defeats from their opening five games.
You can buy tickets in advance for the game or pay on the gate. Sunday’s game kicks off at 2.30pm.
