Chatham Town boss Kevin Hake admitted they had to work hard on the sidelines to find a way of breaking down the basement side at the weekend.

Dan Bradshaw grabbed a late winner for Chats, registering a 1-0 victory against Isthmian South East’s bottom side Corinthian, who have picked up just a single point so far this season.

Bradshaw struck with 12 minutes remaining of the match, played infront of another good crowd, with 747 turning out at the Bauvill Stadium.

“It was nice to finally get back to league action at the Bauvill after over a month away due to being involved in cup competitions throughout September,” said boss Hake.

“You know what you are going to get facing Corinthian, it’s not going to be a pretty spectacle, but on a personal level it was nice to beat them for the first time since I have been involved in the club.

“Dan does what he does best and notched for us in what was a very scrappy game.

“Fair play to all the players involved for taking on board instructions as we continuously looked to tweak things in an effort to breakdown the ‘Corinthian Wall’.”

Hake named an unchanged side to the one which beat Ashford United in the Kent Senior Cup on the Tuesday night. It meant a first league appearance for new recruit Malachi Hudson.

The winger has previously been with Welling, Sheppey and Erith & Belvedere.

“It was nice to see Malachi bed in well after impressing midweek in the Kent Cup win, notching a goal on his debut,” said the manager.

“He has played this level and higher and he will add to the quality that is already in the squad.”

Hake has further strengthened the squad with the signing of striker Daniel Thompson, on loan from Worthing. He has promotion experience at both Tonbridge and Braintree.

Chatham - sixth in the table and four points off leaders Ramsgate with games in hand - are back on the road this Saturday, at Haywards Heath.

Hake said: “We are now unbeaten in five in the league, with four wins and a draw so we will look to continue the run.

“Haywards Heath are under new management so they will have a point to prove.

“We may have only played six games but the league is already looking like anyone can beat anyone on their day so you need to be at your best at all times.

“We are at home versus VCD at the Bauvill on Tuesday night so squad management will be key.”
