Chatham Town backroom staff to take charge for the game at Guernsey in the absence of manager Kevin Horlock

Kevin Horlock has moved to firm-up his backroom staff for occasions, like this weekend, when his senior commitments impact on Chatham.
Terry Groom and Barry Bell will be in charge for Saturday's Ryman League Division 1 South game at Guernsey as Horlock has commitments with Northern Ireland’s under-21s as they prepare to face their Scottish counterparts.
He said: “It was a game I had my eye on ever since I came here. I was looking forward to it. People say it’s a good trip and it’s not often you get the chance to get away with the players at this level.”
It is likely to be the first of several games when Horlock’s coaching commitments elsewhere keep him away from Maidstone Road.
Horlock said: “I work full-time with the under-18s at Colchester. We play on Saturday mornings so most of the time it won’t even be an issue.
“But there are odd games here and there, later in the season, that I might not be back in time.
“I thought it was important to formalise that. It’s important that when I’m not there, the boys will know who is in charge.”
He added: “I didn’t bring anyone with me when I took over at Chatham. Terry and Barry were already here and my lifelong friend John Farley has been doing some coaching and been at some games. We work as a team.
“Terry is well respected in the game, he’s knowledgeable and knows the players. He’s a massive asset.
“Luke Medley will work with the under-21s and we want to include our experienced players like Jack Jeffery and Joe Vines, too, to give them some perspective.”
Horlock hinted several teenagers could be involved when struggling Whitstable visit on Easter Monday (3pm).
