Chatham Town manager Kevin Watson must cut his squad down as the season approaches

Chatham boss Kevin Watson will start to cut his squad down after Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Fisher.
Watson used 22 players on Tuesday when the Chats returned to action with a 1-0 defeat at Cray Valley.
And with the start of the Ryman League season now just three weeks away, he faces key decisions about who to sign and which trialists to release.
Watson said: “There is judgment to be made on players because we need to narrow the squad down a bit.
“You start to formulate decisions. It’s not always a case of whether they are or aren’t good enough, sometimes it’s a case of whether they fit into the team, what you need at that time.”
Daryl Wheeler scored Cray Valley’s winner eight minutes from time on Tuesday.
Watson said: “It was certainly a worthwhile game to play. We got out of it what we wanted in terms of people getting 45 minutes.
“Performance-wise, there were some good performances and some not-so-great performances. We didn’t win the game and although that’s not the be-all and end-all, I’m not naive enough to say results don’t matter.”
