Young Gillingham keeper Henry Newcombe joins Chatham Town on a season-long loan

Gillingham’s young professional keeper Henry Newcombe has joined Chatham Town on a season-long loan.
Newcombe has previously enjoyed a loan spell with hometown club Deal Town and will challenge for the No.1 shirt at the Ryman League side for the 2016-17 campaign.
He agreed a professional deal with Gillingham this summer after completing his scholarship at the club.
Chatham boss Tony Beckingham said: “It’s great to have him at the club.
“He will continue full-time with Gillingham and then train and play games with us.”
Former Gills keeper George Howard is coaching at Chatham this season and his links helped pave the way for the deal.
Beckingham said: “Henry needs games and to play men’s football and we are happy to accommodate him. It’s a win-win situation.”
Beckingham hasn’t ruled out further signings but is happy with the squad he has assembled.
Many players remain from last season, including Joe Loft, Ricky Gundry, Luke Medley and Austin Edwards.
