In-form striker Cody McDonald has signalled his desire to remain at Gillingham long-term.
The frontman struck twice in the 4-2 defeat to Bristol City on Tuesday night, in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy area final, taking his goal-tally to 11.
McDonald, 28, is out of contract in the summer and revealed after the game that no offer has so far been made by the Gills.
He said: "I am out of contract in the summer and it is in the back of my mind. I have a young family and I want security but nothing has been put on the table yet.
“I would like to stay but until that is offered or sorted then there is nothing there.
“I have 11 this season now. It is a decent return, considering I haven’t been in top form for the whole of the season. I have a habit of scoring and hopefully that can continue and maybe I can get a few more than last season.”
The striker could join another club for free in the summer if no new deal is signed.
McDonald has netted 57 goals for the Gills in 124 games and his form of late is as good as it has ever been.
“I am confident at the moment and that helps,” he said.
“Goals give you confidence and I feel confident when the ball is at my feet and running at defenders. I feel confident infront of goal and that is a good thing. Hopefully that will be the case in the next few games and I can play a part in us winning a few.
“I am happy with the goals (on Tuesday) but the main thing is that we lost and I am very disappointed.
"We know we have to defend better but once the coaching staff get the opportunity to get us on the training ground and work on that, which they want to do, then maybe things will change."
