The Shouting Men: Gillingham striker Tom Eaves writes exclusively for the KM Group

00:00, 10 November 2017

It’s going well for me at the moment but I haven’t changed a lot. Anyone who knows me knows I work hard off the pitch.

The difference is last year at Yeovil I hit the post and the bar about eight times and this year they’re going in for me, simple as that. It’s just fine margins.

I keep working hard and it’s starting to pay off and I’m just trying to maintain the purple patch that I’m in.

If you don’t score you have to contribute in other ways and I feel I’ve done that, too, whether it’s my work ethic or bringing others into play.

I don’t feel I’m any stronger than I was last year – I like to stay in shape throughout the year – but I’m perhaps showing a bit more aggression.

I’ve scored seven goals and done that a few times now.

I’m getting the run of games and feel like I’m in great shape. I’m the lowest weight I’ve been since I was about 18, I feel agile, I feel powerful.

I didn’t get the opportunity I felt I deserved at Bolton but I always believe in myself and still believe I’m going to go higher.

That’s all I think about really, getting back up there.

This is just the process for me. There’s no doubt in my mind that I’m on my way back there. I just need to keep scoring.

I’m still learning now from the best players in the world. I’m still watching football, trying to pick up good habits from good people.

It’s all part of the learning process, just constantly trying to get better and watching other strikers, how they move, their instincts.

I’m always on the lookout picking up new things. I watch people like Harry Kane, Jamie Vardy, Romelu Lukaku and Robert Lewandowski.

I look at all different aspects of their game, what they do, where they run and try and incorporate them into my game.

I’m by no means the finished article but I want to learn and better myself constantly.
