IT'S A huge home double header for the Invicta Dynamos ice hockey team this weekend as they entertain Romford in the cup and Isle of Wight in the league.

On Saturday expect some pre-Bonfire Night fireworks as the Romford Raiders come to town.

Player coach Carl Greenhous said: "This local derby always produces competitive hockey and this game should be no different. It is our first outing in the cup and a must win game because we have a good chance to win this competition."

The Mos welcome back netminder Matt Van Der Velden and forward Stuart Lowe, so for the first time in a month have a full squad icing.

The Mos go to the game unbeaten in five while Romford's recent form has been patchy recording a fabulous 2-1 win over league leader Milton Keynes only to narrowly beat struggling Telford 6-5 the following game.

It has been a difficult time off the ice for Romford in recent weeks with six players, including Mos new signings Stuart Low and Carl Ambler leaving Rom Valley Way.

Following the departure of Jason Rushton, Kelvin Solari and netminder Simon Smith came last season's defenceman of the year Tyrone Miller's move to ENPL rivals Chelmsford Chieftains

But Canadian forward Noel Burkitt is expected to make his Raiders' seasonal debut against the Dynamos and Romford will ice 21-year-old new signing defenceman Darren Botha who has also returned to the club.

Former Dynamo Samuli Mykkanen will also feature after having his trial period to stake his claim for a permanent roster place extended.

Greenhous said: "Romford are a hot and cold team, you never know which one will turn up, the tough scrappy side or the complacent one. But it is a local game so that's a reason to be up for it and play with extra passion, which we will."

On Sunday Isle of Wight will bring new signing, Great Britain under-20 forward Adam Carr, into the fray as they search for their first win in eight games.

Greenhous said: "They will be hungry for a win and we will not under-estimate them just because of their position in the table. We will just stick to our game plan and hopefully the results will keep going our way.

"The team have gelled together and I'm happy with the squad. We will not sign anyone new unless a player of exceptional ability becomes available."
