Midfielder Bradley Dack believes Gillingham can improve on their poor away form in League 1

00:01, 12 December 2014

Midfielder Bradley Dack is confident Gillingham’s away form in the league is about to change.

And he’s sure there will be no repeat of what happened in the 2009/10 season.

Dack was a youth player when Mark Stimson’s Gills went the entire season without registering an away league win.

So far this campaign, the Gills who have had no problem winning away in cup competitions, have drawn three and lost six of their first nine games on the road in League 1.

“It is definitely just a matter of time,” said Dack, ahead of the game at Doncaster on Saturday.

“I don’t think we will go the season without winning away from home. It happened a few years ago but it is a different atmosphere and a different changing room from a few years ago.

“I was in the youth team at the time and the whole football world seemed to be talking about it. That wasn’t a good day when they lost to Wycombe, where they needed a point (and got relegated).”

The Gills only needed a draw that day but lost 3-0 with an away record of no wins, six draws and 17 defeats with only 13 goals scored on their travels.

“I don’t think we are in that kind of bracket,” said the young midfielder.

“We have shown we can do it (in the cup) when we put our minds to it and we come together as a team.

“We have had some good away performances, we just haven’t had that rub of the green that maybe have had in the cup.

“Let’s hope that first win comes on Saturday.”
