Gillingham's Bradley Dack thanks Justin Edinburgh for instilling confidence to thrive in free role this season

In-demand Gillingham star Bradley Dack has praised his manager for helping him reach new heights.

Boss Justin Edinburgh has allowed Dack a free role behind the two strikers and that has brought out the best in the 22-year-old Gills midfielder.

Dack, who was recently targeted by Bristol City, said: “I owe a lot to the gaffer. He has done a lot for me, he has given me the confidence to go out and express myself.

“He has given me that free role in the final third to go and pick up the ball, get into good positions and create and score goals. I owe a lot to him, along with Steve Lovell and David Kerslake, they have done a lot for me and helped me.

“The main thing is they have given me that confidence. Playing in the 10 has done me the world of good.”

Dack has scored 14 goals for the Gills this season and assisted in almost as many.

He is now one of the division’s hottest talents, but knows it hasn’t been achieved without his team-mates’ support.

He said: “I don’t think I can believe how the season has been. A lot of it has been down to the team-mates and the staff and the gaffer, it has been a whole collective thing.

“It is nice to score goals and get the headlines but we are in this together and pushing for the same goal.”

More from Dack: "I am committed to this club and happy to stay."
