Transfer deadline day: Gillingham wait to see if offers arrive for Bradley Dack

06:00, 31 August 2016

Gillingham boss Justin Edinburgh admits they are just a phone call away from losing Bradley Dack.

Interest in the player has continued from last season and the Gills are prepared for that to escalate as the transfer window comes to a close.

Clubs have until 11pm on Wednesday night to conclude their business.

The Gills fended off bids from Bristol City in January but the likes of Brighton and Crystal Palace have since been linked to the goalscoring midfielder.

Representatives from both Brighton and Palace were at Priestfield on Tuesday night where Dack played 45 minutes of the game against Luton Town in the Checkatrade Trophy.

Former boss Peter Taylor, now working as a scout for Wolves, was also in the crowd. He has also been spotted watching the Gills at Southend earlier this season and was at Watford to watch the EFL Cup match.

Dack was named League 1 player-of-the-year last season and has been tipped to play at a higher level but Edinburgh hopes he sticks around for a little while longer.

Asked if Dack will be staying, Edinburgh said: “We will wait and see, we hope so, that’s our aim. It’s only one phone call away and we will have to wait and see.

“If it is going to happen, it happens.

“The best thing for us is that (the deadline) comes and goes and we don’t have the questions anymore asking about it. As it stands he will be a Gillingham player for the next six months but that one call could change it, if it’s the right call, the right club and the right price.”
