Gillingham midfielder Darren Oldaker has joined Hythe Town on loan.

The 19-year-old made his debut for the Cannons on Tuesday night, in a 2-1 win over Herne Bay.

Oldaker - known as DJ to his team-mates - hasn't started a league game for the Gills this season, restricted to just eight appearances in all competitions.

Gills boss Steve Lovell has recently added a handful of new midfielders to his squad, lessening the chances of Oldaker seeing some action.

He links up with former team-mate and friend Mitchell Dickenson at the Bostik South side.

Kieron Campbell and Zak Ansah scored Hythe's winning goals, in reply to Jake Embery's early effort for Herne Bay.

The Gills were in action themselves on Tuesday night.

Conor Wilkinson scored twice and had a penalty saved as the Gills beat Folkestone Invicta 2-1 in a friendly.

The game was staged to give some of Gillingham’s fringe players minutes on the pitch, including recent signings Franck Moussa, Navid Nasseri and Rhys Murphy.

Cancelling out Josh Vincent's early effort, the Gills levelled through Wilkinson, after Scott Wagstaff had capitalised on a mistake by the keeper.

Nasseri struck the bar for the Gills but Wilkinson put them ahead just before the break. There was a chance for a hat-trick on 88 minutes but Wilkinson’s spot-kick was saved by keeper Nick Shaw.

Gills: Hadler (Catherall 72mins), O'Mara, Nugent, Ogilvie, Wagstaff (Chapman 46mins), Moussa (Stevenson 68mins), Nasseri, List (Trialist 67mins), Nash, Murphy (Mbo 72mins), Wilkinson.
