Gillingham have agreed a deal with Reading to keep Dominic Samuel for the remainder of the season.

Samuel has been with the Gills since the middle of November. He made an immediate impact with the club, scoring within six minutes of his debut, in the 3-1 win over Bury.

He has gone onto make 13 more appearances for the club, taking his goal tally to five.

Samuel originally came to the Gills to regain his fitness after picking up a knee injury early on in the season. He was stretchered off at Colchester in the Capital One Cup.

He is now 100% but Reading are happy for the 21-year-old continue his footballing educations at the Gills, for the rest of the season.

Speaking to getreading.co.uk earlier today, Reading boss Brian McDermott said: “We can keep watching him doing his stuff and then he can come back to us having had a full season under his belt in the summer and be part of our squad.

“He’s getting stronger all the time, he’s scoring goals, his movement is terrific.

“To take him back now and for him to only come off the bench, maybe for his development and for us, it would be better for him to stay.”

The deal will run up to the end of May, taking in the play-off final at Wembley on the 29th, should the Gills be there.
